Last Day :'(

Our final day in Europe :(
We started the day off in Trier where we walked around the walkplatz and did a little bit of shopping. The weather was not very cooperative again today. It seems like it has either been 100 degrees or crappy and rainy- no happy medium! We stopped and had some gyros for lunch- the first chicken we have had in almost 2 weeks!

our crappy weather :(

We were just heading to go check out a palace and church when it started to rain, so we decided rather then get soaked we should probably get on our way to Saarbrucken to drop off our rental car. The car had to be returned by 5. We left Trier around 2. Thank goodness we left early because the traffic at the train station was crazy! It took us almost an hour just to get through the city! We returned our car with about a half hour to spare! We had the man in charge call us a cab to take us back to the train station but the cab driver refused to take us saying the traffic was too bad. Instead we took a subway up to the train station. Thank goodness there was another man in the Hertz rental car who was also taking the subway and helped us out or we would probably still be in Saarbrucken!
Returning the rental car
So, we made it to the train station, where we had a 3 hour wait until our train. Mom went outside the station to take a picture of it and discovered that there was a nice little walkplatz and a huge mall less then a block away. This is after we had been sitting in the station for about an hour and a half..... So we went and shopped and at our last gelato!

Our final gelato
Then it was time to head back in and catch our train! But, we did have some time to get some quick chinese which was very good!
Our train left at 9 and got into Paris around 11. We took a cab to our hotel and crashed for the night. Our flight left the next morning at 11.
We got to the airport the next morning and we were waiting in line to check our bags and the guy next to us in line looked just like Johnny Depp so naturally we had to take a picture.
While we waited for our flight ot board we found one last macaroon shop. I got raspberry and mint the mint was my all time favorite!Mom got salted caramel and lemon.

We made both of our flights this time- with no delays! We were in quite a rush to make our connecting flight to Windsor, but thankfully we made it on time!
Now we are home sweet home trying to readjust our sleep schedules!

Belgium and Luxembourg- Fail

Today, we attempted to stop in Belgium and Luxembourg. We drove to St. Vith, Belgium in search of a good Belgian waffle. Again, because it is Sunday most places are closed. So we ended up at a bakery. We both got Belgian waffles. I have to say I was very disappointed. The waffle was not what I was expecting at all- it was cold!

Moms nemesis- the roundabout
After our waffles, we were in search of some good chocolate. There was no chocolate shop to be found in St. Vith, so we headed to the next town, Vielsalm. We walked around for probably a half hour and found nothing. We stopped at a littler bakery in a desperate attempt to find chocolate and found some very gross chocolate. Not worth $0.45!
Our gross chocolate.
Well, Belgium was a complete fail. We headed to Luxembourg in hopes of better luck. Anita (mom's landlord) told us to go to Vianden, Luxembourg. Little did we know, there was a festival going on today so it was crazy busy. people were parked miles away and we drove right through the festival and kept right on going. It looked like a cute little town with a fun festival but, we were not about to park 2 miles away!

So we headed back to base. We ended up going to Taco Bell on base for dinner. It has never tasted so good.

Then we came back to our room and hung out for a little bit. Then mom decided she wanted to go see the Berncastle for a little bit, but as soon as we left base it started to rain. We hoped it would stop when we got there, but no such luck. Sad, we headed back home. On the bright side, we stopped at a McDonalds Mcaffe- they have really good stuff here cakes, cookies etc- and both got a piece of cake. And that us as exciting as our day got. Everything we tried to do went terribly wrong! Hopefully, our luck turns around tomorrow, we have a train to catch!

Lots of windmills here!

Sankt Goar/ Spangdahlem

This morning we enjoyed out last German continental breakfast at the Rheinhotel. Then we did a little bit of shopping and said goodbye to Sankt Goar.

Our awesome hotel manager
We attempted to go hike the ruins of the Rheinfels castle, but of course it was raining so it was too slippery so they closed it. :(

Instead, we decided to check out Burg Eltz castle on our way to Spangdahlem. After seeing Neuschwanstein, Eltz did not really impress me. The tour inside the castle was better than Neuschwanstein because you could see a lot more. But scenery wise, Neuschwanstein kills it. You can see for miles. Eltz is kinda in the middle of nowhere.

After checking things out at Eltz, we finished our drive to Spangdahlem to the US Air Force base where we will be staying for the next 2 nights.

We went to the BX to get some of dads favorite pizza- Anthonys- which was pretty good! We tried to buy some souvenirs as well, but because dad is retired they wouldn't let us which doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

When mom and dad were stationed here 26  years ago, they lived in an apartment in a town called Orenhoffen, about 10 minutes away from the base. So, we decided to go see where they used to live and mom wanted to see if her old landlords still lived there. She knocked on the door, and sure enough they did! So we visited for a couple of hours. Anita is the sweetest little lady!

Then we stopped to get some dinner at an Italian place near base. Wow was it good! Mom got cordon bleu and I got gnocchi.

After dinner, we made our way back to base to kick back and relax a little bit. Tomorrow we head to Belgium for waffles and Luxembourg just for fun!
